Floral Frame

This is the project that we made at the kids' class which I teach every month for my city's Parks, Recreation, and Tourism department.  This is a class where every child (ages 6-12) makes a project along with his/her mother/grandmother/other adult.  Every month the project is something completely different - and they never know what they will be making when they sign up.  (I don't even know what the project will be until a week or so before class - when I start preparing for it!)

For this class, I cut the pieces to make four flowers for each child, using a retired set of dies (Paper Florist.) I taught the girls how to put the pieces together to make four different kinds of flowers.  Then they could make as many additional flowers in whatever colors they wanted to complete their projects.  They loved using the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine to cut more flowers and greenery to complete their projects.  If you zoom in on the photo below - you will see that each project is unique and each one is  beautiful!  Just looking at their smiles tells me they had a great time.

These classes always sell out quickly because they are limited to 8 children/adult pairs - but if you are local to me (Chesapeake, VA) and want a creative activity like this for a group of children AND ADULTS - just CONTACT ME for pricing and other project ideas.

Spring Wreath

Look at this fun wreath that was made at my recent "Her & Me" children's class.  This is a class that I teach once at month for my city's Parks & Rec department.  Each child/adult pair works together to complete a craft project that I design and prepare for them.  I TRY to make they easy enough for the children to make - with a bit of supervision and help from the adult.

I thought this project might be a little challenging - because it required using liquid glue - which can often cause a big mess and super sticky fingers (which most kids do not like!)  But they all did a great job - especially with arranging the patterned paper to make a beautiful wreath.

Of course - you will always end up with a beautiful project when you use patterned paper from Stampin' Up! - because the colors always coordinate perfectly.  These wreaths were made using paper that retired a few years ago - but you could make a wreat like this with any of our current papers.

You can see all of the patterned papers currently for sale BY CLICKING HERE.

How to Make the Wreath:

  • Start with a 9" foam wreath (I found mine at Dollar Tree.)
  • Cut patterned paper 1" x 9"
  • Wrap the paper around the wreath - overlapping the pieces slightly. (You will need approx. 28-32 pieces; depending on how much you overlap them when making the wreath.)

**I used a combination of Tear Tape and Multipurpose Liquid glue - to attach the paper to the wreath.  I applied tear and tape to the the paper strips and spread the liquid glue to the wreath in small sections before wrapping the paper around the wreath.  Line up the ends of the paper and press together.**

  • After all the paper strips were attached - I looped a piece of ribbon around the top to hang the wreath.
  • Cut the ends of the strips to make a decorative "flag" edge.
  • Decorate your wreath!  We made a "spring" banner and paper flowers using various punches.

Here's a photo of me with three of the students from class - and their beautiful wreaths.

Her & Me

Each month I teach a "kids" class at a local community center.  The class is called "Her & Me" because each child has his/her mother, grandmother, or other adult there to help with the project.  These are the projects we made at Monday night's class - and they were a big hit!  Each child made three rosettes - I did quite a bit of the prep work by cutting out the pieces using the "Round We Go" dies - but they did the accordian folds and glued various hearts together for the centers. We hot glued the rosettes to skewers - and then poked them into a piece of pool noodle inside the tin bucket, hidden by a layer of tissue paper. Finished the whole thing off with some ribbon and a few small heart picks from the Dollar Tree.  Super cute!

I never know how long it will take for everyone to finish making the project - so I also prepared two Valentine's Day cards for them to make as well.  The girls loved using the Stampin' Cut and Emboss Machine to add texture to one of the card fronts.  They did a great job with stamping - especially since they were using red ink!

Below is a closer look at my sample projects - and I notice that one of my rosettes is backwards!  It really doesn't matter since we used double sided paper - the back is just as pretty as the front.  I only glued a circle to the back (instead of hearts.)

Below are three of the projects made at Monday's night class, and the three girls (& me!) who made them.  The girls were so excited about giving these masterpieces to their teachers the following day - for them to put on their desks and enjoy all month long.

I have some great photos of all the class participants - with everyone wearing a HUGE SMILE - but since I did not get permission from everyone to post - I will not share those photos here.

These classes fill up quickly - even though they have NO IDEA what project we will be making each month.  I usually don't even know - until the week before!  (Talk about procrastination!)  I always have a few ideas - but I can never seem to narrow it down until the last minute!

I used a lot of retied products and some past Paper Pumpkin kits for these projects - but below are two of the current items we used to make these projects.
