Saturday Sketch # 21

Here is the card that I made using the weekly sketch from a demonstrator training group I am in.  I wanted to use a piece of Beautiful Gallery 6x6 Designer Series Paper.  I used Pecan Pie card stock for the card base, and Lost Lagoon for the embossed layer.  I stamped the greeting on Basic Beige card stock and cut it out using the Stylish Shapes dies.  (This is a MUST HAVE set of dies, in my opinion.)  I used two scraps of paper from the Beautiful Gallery pack, left over from other cards I made, and the third accent piece is  scrap from Thoughtful Designs specialty paper.

Below is the sketch I used to make the card.

Who Can Resist Embossing?!

It seems like every January I say I want to blog more often - and so here I go again!    We are up to 5 missed days of school due to our recent snow storm - so I've had time to go back and post some past projects from my stamp club classes.  These cards were made back in March 2017.  They are all made using different heat embossing techniques.

This card uses what I consider "regular" heat embossing.  I stamped the floral image and the words (from Flourishing Phrases stamp set) on white card stock using Versamark ink.  Then I sprinkled gold embossing powder over the ink, shook off the extra, and then heat set it using Stampin' Up!'s heat tool.  If you look closely you can also see where I stamped the floral image on the purple card stock using Versamark - to give it a watermark look, which adds an extra detail and interest to the card.

The cards above and below were both made using the Embossed Resist technique.  First I stamped the floral and leaf images on a piece of glossy white card stock.  I used Versamark ink and white embossing  powder.  After I heat embossed and the card stock was cool, I used sponges to add color to the card stock.  The ink will not stick on the embossed images.  I did take a tissue and rubbed across the embossed areas - just to make sure any specks of ink were removed.  I added a mat of gold foil card stock and heat embossed the greeting on Vellum.  The cards below have a Melon Mambo card stock mat and the words are stamped and embossed on Melon Mambo.

The final card was made to show that you can heat emboss in any of the Stampin' Up! colors.  You just have to be quick: stamp the image using our new firm foam ink pads and emboss immediately using clear embossing powder.

High Tide Sympathy

This past weekend I held stamp classes for the first time since May!  We made five cards using the High Tide stamp set.  This was the first one we stamped - it is a clean and simple card - everything was stamped on a piece of  Whisper White card stock.  I used Pool Party ink to stamp the water/waves.  The sun and words were stamped using Crumb Cake ink.  The birds were stamped using Night of Navy ink.  Once the images were stamped, the white piece was layered on Night of Navy card stock and then layered on a Crumb Cake card base.

TIP:  Always stamp on the white card stock BEFORE adhering the layers together.  That way you can turn the paper over and stamp on the back if you make a mistake!

MEASUREMENTS:     Whisper White card stock: 3 3/4 inches x 5 inches
Night of Navy card stock: 4 inches x 5 1/4 inches
                                     Crumb Cake card stock: 5 1/2 inches x 8 1/2 inches; scored at 4 1/4

The words "With Sympathy" are from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set.  This card could be used for almost any occasion.

I'm Back!

Here I am on Mother's Day with my two children: Emily & Ben and the gifts they gave me: Hershey's Chocolate (the BEST), a chalkboard piggy bank to match all the black accessories in my craft room, and a four pack of Twisted Sister Cupcakes, which we sampled along with the judges while watching Cupcake Wars last night.  We were rooting for the sisters......but they were sent packing after the second round.

This week I had several people ask me when I was going to post to my blog again.  It made me smile to know that people were actually going to my blog to look for directions to projects we made in stamp club, or just checking to see what was new.

There are many reasons why I took a break from blogging - the main reason is my mother's sudden passing on April 5th.  We had to make a quick trip to Pennsylvania for her funeral, and I took an entire week off from work.  It was an extremely emotional time but the one thing that helped me through  was stamping.  I had my club meetings in April as scheduled and it was good to be with friends and have fun and even laugh.

There are several other reasons why I took a break from blogging, and I will share them with you in later posts.  Thank you to everyone who asked about my blog!  I hope you will enjoy all the things I have to show you over the next several weeks.  The new catalog is getting ready to launch at the end of the month - so there will be lots of new stamp sets, new colors, and new products to show you.  I also have a new class coming up in June, and something special planned to celebrate my birthday in July!

Below are a few of the "handcrafted" cards that I received from friends.  Although I cried as I opened each card, it also made me smile to receive them, because they are from ladies who have become good friends because of stamping.

This is the first card I received, from Connie.  She works at the same preschool as me and she is also one of my down line.

The card below is from another one of my down line, Linda.
