Coffee and Cards

These are the cards we made at my "Coffee and Cards" class - which I teach once a month at a local community center. If you live in Chesapeake, VA - or any of the nearby towns - please join me for this fun class. I supply everything that is needed - and provide step by step directions. But I also give everyone the "freedom" to make each card their own.

I should have taken photos of the finished cards after class - because they made some changes - and they all looked great!

This first card was so quick and easy! The hardest part was choosing which coordinating colors to use for the card. I used the beautiful Country Woods designer paper for this card - and it will return in the 2025-2026 Annual Catalog.

This card was made with some retired designer paper - but perfect for my Coffee and Cards class. I love how everyone chose a different embossing folder for the Petal Pink layer. And because Stampin' Up!'s paper has different designs on the front and back - some people chose the opposite sides to make the card. And a few even rearranged the strips - or where they placed the coffee cup. I gave them a piece of paper with three cups that they had to "fussy cut." In my sample - I put two of the cups inside the card!

The third card is an oldie but goodie. The design shows off both sides of the paper. To make the best use of the 12x12 designer paper - I cut the panels at 4" - instead of 4-1/4".

Saturday Sketch #11

Here's a card I made - using a sketch challenge from a demonstrator training group I am in. If you are in a creative slump - following a sketch might be the thing that will get you out of it. I made this card using Perrenial Lavender Designer Series Paper. This paper has been around for awhile - and is going to be the new Stampin' Up! 2025-2026 Annual Catalog. This paper is beautiful in real life - perfect for any project you will be making this Spring.

Measurements for making this card (in inches):

Crumb Cake card stock base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2; scored at 4-1/4
Gorgeous Grape Layer is a piece of the designer paper: 5-1/4 x 4
Crumb Cake sqare mats: 1-3/8
Designer Paper squares: 1-1/4
Crumb Cake strip: 5-1/2 x 1/4
Crumb Cake sentiment piece: cut to the size of the sentiment
Purple Fine Shimmer Gems finish the card

The sentiment on the card is from an "Online Exclusive" stamp set called "Tags of Thanks." Be sure to check out all of the Online Exclusives HERE. There are some neat things there that you will not see in any catalog! And new items will be added in May - so be sure to check back then to see more goodies!

For the Books part 2

I had so much fun with the "For the Books" bundle from Stampin' Up! It was one of the first sets I bought from the Jan/Apr 2025 mini catalog - mainly because both of my kids are book lovers - and I thought I could make some fun cards for them.

I shared several cards that I made with this set last week. You can see that post HERE. The card above is one of my favorites - its' a bookmark card. Whoever receives the card can tear off the flap and use it as a book marker.

Here is a short video showing you how to make this card - using one of the Crafter's Tips for the Take Your Pick Tool.

Measurements to make the bookmark card:

Card base 5-1/2 x 10-1/2; score at 4-1/4 and 8-1/2 (Use the Perforating Tip from the Take Your Pick Tool to go over the 8-1/2 score line)
Granny Apple Green layer on card front: 4 x 5-1/4
White layer for stamping on front of card: 3-3/4 x 5
Stitched Circle Die for front of card (2-1/2")
White layer for inside card: 4 x 5-1/4
White piece for bookmark/stamped book images: 1-3/4 x 5-1/4

When I was making my first sample - I thought I stamped too many books on the book mark part of the card. Well, I couldn't just throw it away - so I turned it into a bookmark to keep track of my reading goal for 2025 - which is 25 books. I had to stamp a few more books on the back - and then I added the numbers using the Birthday Celebration Dies.

Below is an idea for an easier bookmark to make using the For the Books dies. Stampin' Up!'s CEO, Sara Douglass, posted a reel showing how easy it is to make the bookmark - including the little tassles. So I gave it a try.

Saturday Sketch #10

Here's a card I made - using a sketch challenge from a demonstrator training group I am in. If you are in a creative slump - following a sketch might be the thing that will get you out of it. I try to follow the sketch closely - so I had to go looking for something that looked like the branch in the sketch (below.) I decided to use one of the dies from the Textured Floral Dies. I cut out all three dies that look like branches - and chose the one I thought looked best with the designer paper that I wanted to use for the card.

You may have missed the designer paper - Serene Love - which is an online only exclusive product. As I write this blog post, it is on the Last Chance List - at a reduced price of $8.75. I bought this paper when it first came out - but didn't open the pack until last week. It is beautiful - and I'm so sad that I waited so long to use it and show it to you. But the good news is - you can take advantage of the sale price, while supplies last. So don't wait to grab this beautiful paper!

And while you are shopping - you may want to stock up on card stock. When the new catalog comes out in May - the price of card stock will increase from $11.50 to $14 per package.
