Let's Celebrate USA/250

Here is the project that we made earlier this month at the "Her & Me" class I teach for Chesapeake's Parks, Recreation, and Tourism department.  Most of the pieces for this 8 x 10"  framed piece were made using retired Stampin' Up! punches, dies, and embossing folders.  The girls LOVED using the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine!  For this project, I also had them do a little heat embossing - for the fireworks.  (That stamp came in May's Paper Pumpkin kit - which was perfect timing!)

The class did not fill up this month - so I have a few extra kits available for purchase for $25 each (excluding frame)  plus shipping - if the kit needs to be mailed to you.

Below are some of the students with their projects.

Thank You, Veterans

Thank you to all the Veterans out there - for your service and sacrifice.

I am most grateful for, and proud of my husband, Cliff, who served over 30 years in the United States Navy.  The only picture I have (on my phone) of him in his uniform is one from our wedding day - 28 years ago!  I met him towards the end of his military career - so I'm not the typical military wife.  The longest we were apart was 3 months - and at the end of that separation, we enjoyed a family vacation at Disney World. I have so much respect for the all the Navy wives I met over the years who had to deal with much longer and more dangerous deployments.

Below is aVeteran's Day card that I made over 10 years ago.  Who remembers the Top Note Die?!   Punch Art was popular back then - before all the thin dies were available.

I Scrapped!

When I discovered Stampin' Up! (around 8 years ago) my scrap booking took a back seat.  I still take photos with scrapbook pages in mind - but it has been awhile since I really sat down and worked on my scrapbooks.

A few months ago a woman at church asked me if I would help her make a scrapbook.  She wanted to record some highlights of her husband's career in the Marines.   Below are some of the completed pages.

I used Night of Navy, Marina Mist, Cherry Cobbler, and Crumb Cake throughout the album. I also used some non Stampin' Up! "Americana" patterned paper on some of the pages.  I know these pages are simple - but she and her husband were thrilled with the results.

Working on this scrapbook made we want to get back to working on some of my family albums - including one for my own husband's 30 year Navy career!

My Eagle Scout!

I'm interrupting my regular blogging to brag a little bit about my son, Ben.  He earned the rank of Eagle Scout back in July for a garden renovation project he did at his old elementary school.  He really worked hard on the project and did it all on his own: from planning, fundraising, getting volunteers/donations, and organizing/directing the workers over the course of several days to complete the project.  He was even planning his awards ceremony with two friends who also made Eagle around the same time.

On the Sunday before the ceremony I got involved when one of the other moms decided centerpieces might jazz up the tables a bit.  I agreed - so I went home that night and searched Pinterest for ideas and this is what we came up with:

The other mom and I got together several times that week to make 22 of these, and even though I wasn't planning to get involved with the planning of the Court of Honor ceremony - I'm glad I did, because I think they turned out nice and added a little something to the event.

Then the morning of the ceremony(!) I decided that I probably should make Ben a card  so this is what I came up with:
Ben makes me proud every day - he is a great kid.  He gets good grades, stays out of trouble, and is already accepted to the Virginia Military Institute for the fall.  But having him ask me to help him make Thank You notes made me SOOOOOOOOOOOO happy!  Here he is stamping his cards:

Wendy's Workshop- Project 2

Wendy asked if I would also demonstrate the Service & Sacrifice stamp set at her workshop. I CASED the idea for the eagle from some unknown source (my apologies to the original designer, for not saving the original blog post.) It is made using the large oval punch, and a non-SU punch for the tail feathers. I always encourage my customers to get creative with their projects and change my design in any way they choose. I wish I had taken my camera with me…….to take photos of how different everyone’s card looked. Here is a peek at the inside of my cards.

This is a fabulous stamp set for making cards to show your appreciation for military personnel and their families. Thanks for looking.
