The Leftovers Card

Earlier this week I posted a video tutorial for making a "see through" card, where I cut away a section of embossed card stock.  I used that "leftover" piece of embossed card stock to make the card above.   I trimmed the piece to 3-3/4" wide.  Then I cut Designer Series Paper the same width and arranged the pieces on a 4 x 5-1/4 piece of Pacific Point card stock.  I added a greeting from the Whale Done stamp set, and a punched whale to finish the layer.  Then it was all attached to a Basic White card base.

Here is the card where I cut away the embossed piece:

I made 14 other cards and a mini flip album with the Whale of a Time products in the 2020-2021 Stampin' Up! annual catalog.  You can see the projects I made BY CLICKING HERE.

Whale Done Shaker Card - video tutorial

Last week I posted a video showing 14 cards that I made with products from the Whale of a Time suite from the Stampin' Up! 2020-2021 annual catalog.  You can see that video BY CLICKING HERE.  In this video, I show you how to make the shaker card from that video.

Here is the card that I made in the video:

Measurements and Basic Directions for making the card:

  • Pool Party card base 5-1/2 x 8-1/2; scored at 4-1/4
  • Pool Party layer 4 x 5-1/4; punch out hole near the top of this piece using the 2-1/4 inch punch or a circle die; then emboss the piece using the Seabed 3D embossing folder
  • Adhere a 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 piece of Window Sheet to the back of the embossed piece, covering the hole
  • Attach a foam strip to the window sheet - around the circle cut out.
  • Put a small pile of sequins on the window sheet - in the center of the circle, then adhere a piece of DSP on the foam strip, making sure your paper is in the correct position, so the view is correct when looking from the other side.
  • Use more foam strips, or edge pieces from Stampin' Dimensional sheets, to raise up the entire pool party panel to the card front.
  • The shaker part is done!
  • Stamp or punch out a whale from the Designer Series paper.
  • Use the Banners Pick a Punch on one end of a 3/4 strip of Basic White card stock; stamp the greeting and cut to the correct size.  Attach the greeting and the whale to the front of the card using Dimensionals.

Below are some of the products I used to make this card.  Click on the photo for more details and to add the item to your wish list or shopping bag in my online store.

Whale Done - 14 cards and a Mini Flip Album

I have been having so much fun making cards with the Whale of a Time suite of products from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog.  Watch the video to see 14 cards that I made using these products, as well as a mini flip album that I made last fall.  I CASED several cards from Pinterest - and then I used the leftover bits and pieces of Designer Series Paper to make even more cards.  I will post photos and measurements for these projects soon.  (If you are viewing this in your email - you may need to click on the title to load the video.)

In the meantime, if you have any specific questions about a certain card - please EMAIL me and I will be happy to help you!

Here are the products that are a part of the Whale of a Time suite.  Click on any image to learn more about the product.  You can add it to your wish list or to your shopping bag in my online store.

Happy BIrthday, Dr. Seuss

Yesterday was Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday.  I loved celebrating this special day when I was a preschool teacher.  Kids love the rhymes and funny words in the Dr. Seuss books.  One of my all time favorite Dr. Seuss books is One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish.  I remember this book being on the bookshelf where I got my hair cut as a little kid.  It was always the first book I grabbed to read while I was waiting for my sisters to get their hair cut.  It was one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books to read to my class to to my own children.

When I was searching Pinterest for ideas using the Whale Done stamp set, I saw a card by Sarah Berry from the UK, and all I could think of was that book!  I made my card almost exactly like she did - except I moved the greeting to the bottom of the card to cover a smudge of ink!  LOL!!!  I also centered the white stamped piece on the card front.

You can see her card below:

I'm really trying hard to do a little decorating inside my cards.  The stamps in the Whale Done stamp set make it really easy to do that!

Basic Directions:
  • Pumpkin Pie card base 5-1/2 x 8-1/2; scored at 4-1/4
  • Basic White card stock for front: 3-1/4 x 5-1/2  and inside: 4 x 5-1/4 and scrap for punching Tailored Tag
  • Stamp Pad colors: Pumpkin Pie, Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue

The Whale of a Time product suite can be found on pages 94-96 of the Stampin' Up! 2020-2021 annual catalog.  I purchased the entire product suite right away, because I love anything to do with the ocean and beach.  I used the Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper to make a cute 6x6 fold up mini album for a class that I taught for the Parks, Recreation,  & Tourism Department for my city.  But I never inked up the stamp set until recently.

Here are some photos of the album.

You can see a short video that I made, showing this album BY CLICKING HERE.

Over the weekend, I made several cards using these products - once I started I could not stop!  Be sure to come back to see those cards.

Mini Scrapbook/Photo Album

On FRIDAY'S BLOG POST I gave you a sneak peek at this album, made with the Whale of a Time Designer Series paper, which is currently ON SALE.

Here is a video showing how the album flips open.

This is the project we will be making at my October class for Chesapeake Parks and Rec.  It will be an "in person" class at the Rokeby Center - which has a large space with plenty of room for social distancing.  The class size is limited to 10 and the class will not involve any sharing of supplies - all in the name of safety.  Bring photos to class and learn how to crop and mat them .  Or you can add photos later.

All class attendees will receive half a package of the Whale of a Time Designer Series Paper and all the supplies needed to make the flip album.  Everything will be cut to size - to make an album exactly like mine.  If you attend the class - you are free to substitute any of the designer papers to make it your own!  You will have LOTS of paper left over to use for other projects.  Check out my PINTEREST BOARD to see the ideas I have for using this paper.

Here are photos of the inside of the album:

Below are close ups up the photo mats.

The original designer of this album is Audra Monk (The Crafty Yogi) but I did make a few changes to save some designer paper and to make it a little easier for beginner crafters to assemble.

If you live in Chesapeake, VA or the surrounding cities,  I hope you will give this class a try.  Invite a friend to join you for a fun night out.

Details:

  • Thursday October 22;  6:00 - 8:30pm
  • Rokeby Center; Chesapeake, VA
  • Chesapeake residents: $18  Non-residents: $23
  • CLICK HERE now to reserve your spot.
